Benefits and competence

 

What are the benefits of participating in the MSE® - Certified Machinery Safety Expert qualification?

Successful participation in the qualification for CMSE® records that you acquired competence in all the relevant areas of machinery safety. You receive an internationally acknowledged TÜV NORD certificate and so you secure an additional qualification for your professional development. And finally, you become part of a worldwide community of experts.

What are the requirements to participate in the qualification for CMSE®?

To achieve the qualification for CMSE® you must at least meet one of the following requirements:

Requirement 1: Minimum 5 years of experience in the safety sector

Minimum 5 years of professional experience/training in one or several sectors of machinery safety, e.g. technology, safety-related design and production, safety-related maintenance and repair.

OR

Requirement 2: Qualification minimum 1 year of experience

Formal qualification(s) in the sectors of natural sciences in general, engineering, technology, design and construction or maintenance and repair of machines from a university/technical university with a duration of at least two years.

AND

Minimum 1 year of practical experience in one or several sectors of machinery safety, e.g. technology, safety-related design and production, safety-related maintenance and repair.

 

Prerequisites and registration

 

Why are details on my qualifications required in the registration form?

These details are required to ensure that interested parties will fulfil the conditions for participation. All the details that have been communicated to Pilz in the registration forms will be treated as strictly confidential. Pilz and TÜV NORD not pass any personal data to a third party. If you have any questions on completing the registration form, please contact admin@cmse.com.

How will I know whether I have been admitted to the CMSE® qualification?

Your registration will be checked for the necessary requirements. Then you will be informed by Pilz whether you have been admitted to the training course and/or whether we recommend that you qualify at a later date.

What can I do if do not fulfil the requirements?

Minimum requirements ensure that the interested parties are able to pass the exam and to obtain the CMSE® certificate - together with the necessary background and the relevant experience, and the 4-day qualification. If you do not currently fulfil the necessary qualifications, we recommend that you take the CMSE® qualification at a time where you meet the requirements.

What can I do if the CMSE® expert level is too hard for me, and I want to take a basic or advanced course?

Pilz offers a wide range of different seminars on all aspects of machinery safety, no special conditions are required for this. Seminar topics, content and course details can be found here. Or contact us on all questions relating to other training topics.

What are the qualifications/competences of the CMSE® trainers?

All the CMSE® trainers are experts form Pilz or from other qualified companies or institutions. Each CMSE® course is supported by a trainer from Pilz, who has successfully passed the "CMSE® Train the Trainer" examination which is also certified by TÜV NORD. In addition, all the persons involved in the CMSE® course can prove comprehensive practical experience from the machinery safety sector, and they are designated experts on the subject area they teach.

What services are included in the course fee?

The following services are included in the course fee:

  • 4-day training
  • Lunch and drinks on all the days
  • All training documents and handouts
  • Examination fee
  • Certification fee (when the exam has been passed)

Are there any fees in addition to the course fees?

No, there are not additional fees. Course fees include all the costs related to qualification, including examination fee and certificate. The participant only pays the cost for journey, overnight accommodation and catering outside the training period.

If you fail the exam, there would be costs for a repeat exam. The certificate renewal after 4 years is also chargeable; it includes a one-day training, all the training documents and also the re-certification fee.

I want to register several persons from my company. Is there a group discount?

Please contact the local partner in your country if you wish to register several participants, or to perform in-house courses. We are happy to organise courses in several countries for you.

How will payment be made?

Payment terms may differ, depending on the country, they can be found in the registration form.

Who do I pay?

Pilz organises the CMSE® courses, therefore Pilz receives the complete invoice amount. It includes, for example, the costs for the TÜV NORD certificate, the examination fees, and catering during the course (see Services).

What happens if I have to cancel the course?

Cancellation terms can be found in the registration form, and in the General Terms and Conditions.

What happens if I cannot participate on all the days of the course?

The course fees are not refundable. Also, you can attend the course only at the booked date and time. To obtain the CMSE certificate you must attend the course on all the days, and successfully pass the final exam. If there are reasons that prevent you from participating, please contact us promptly so that we can find a solution for you.

Can I send someone to represent me?

No, unfortunately you cannot arrange to be represented. To achieve CMSE® - Certified Machinery Safety Expert certification, you have to personally participate in all the course sections.

 

Exam and certificate

 

What score is required to pass the final exam?

You must answer at least 80% of the exam questions correctly to obtain the CMSE® certificate. You can use your training documentation for the final exam, which is provided as part of the CMSE qualification.

Will I receive the result of the exam immediately after the exam?

The exam sheets will be evaluated at official level by TÜV NORD. Generally, you will receive your result approx. 4 weeks after the exam. You will receive an E-Mail with an information on whether you have passed the exam. When you pass the exam, we will send you the certificate by mail.

Are there any documents for preparing the course?

Al the information necessary to achieve the qualification will be presented as part of the course. You can use your course documentation for the final exam. We recommend the CMSE® quiz to initially assess your knowledge. Here you can test your knowledge by answering 10 questions that are similar in content and scope to the questions of the CMSE® examination.

What is the learning curve of the CMSE® examination?

Al the information necessary to achieve the qualification will be presented as part of the course. You will receive the complete training documentation on the first day of the course. You can use it during the exam. As the exam is demanding, we recommend that you repeat and memorise the training content as part of your preparation for the exam.

How can I renew my existing certificate?

It is necessary to renew the CMSE® certificate every four years. To do this, you have to attend a one-day training, there are fees for this. You can find detailed information for your relevant country here.

 

Organisational matters

 

Is there a grant/ financial funding for the qualification to CMSE®?

In some countries there is a grant for the qualification for CMSE®. The amount of the grant can vary, depending on the regulation in the relevant country. Please contact your local partner in your country for further details.

How an where can I book overnight accommodation? Are there concessions for course participants?
